If you're reading this blog, maybe you're a longstanding fan of Voices Rising. Or maybe you found us through the web, and you're just getting to know us. Maybe (hopefully!) you supported us in our participation in GALA 2008. Whatever the case may be, you can be a part of Voices Rising and our committment to be a vital part of the larger GLBT Choral Movement.
We raised over $5000 to defray expenses of traveling to GALA and to support the participation of as many members as possible, including those who might not otherwise be able to afford to attend.
Now it's time, believe it or not, to start thinking ahead. Voices Rising will be eight years old (!!) at the next GALA. Who knows how many voices we will be by that time! Given how wonderful GALA was, we hope that we can get everyone to come to the next GALA. To make that happen, we have developed a longer-range fundraising plan.
Here's how it works: Of course, your donations to Voices Rising are most welcome at any time and in any form. However, if you are inspired by our experience at GALA and would like your contribution to support our attendance at GALA festivals, feel free to make a notation on your donation that says it is for GALA, and we will make sure your contribution is set aside for this specific purpose. In addition, any contributions made now for future GALA Festival will be placed in an interest-bearing account, so your donations will go even further!

Through the hard work of chorus members, through the generosity of our supporters, families, partners, friends, and audiences, through the fundraising plan of our leadership team, through our determination, we were able to raise MORE than our fundraising goal of $5000!!!!
These funds enabled us to send our artistic director and accompanist to GALA without dipping into our operational funds, support our members in attending GALA, purchase our snazzy coordinated wardrobe, obtain inspirational music from other performing choruses (maybe you'll hear some of it in our future performances!), and enjoy the comraderie and community of GALA Festival 2008.

Voices Rising is a women's chorus, founded upon feminist principles of community, inclusivity, activism and education. We sing together to give voice to our lives, identities and beliefs, and to celebrate the diverse lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and women's communities in and around Boston. Raising our voices in joy and solidarity, we contribute to the growing tradition of the women's choral movement. Through our music, we strengthen ourselves and serve our community's history, present needs and future possibilities.

GALA is the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses, an international organization of GLBT Choruses. Every four years, GALA holds an international choral festival, attended by over 1000 members of over 100 choruses from all over the world. This year, the Festival will be held in Miami, Florida, and Voices Rising will be there!
